Do you tend to binge on food mindlessly, and then end up feeling sickened? If so, it may be because you are struggling with acid refluxes or also known as acidity. Frequent heartburn or acidity has become common these days. But all the bitter taste, burning in the throat, gaseous bloating in the stomach points towards acidity.

Whatever you eat travels through your mouth down through oesophagus and into your stomach. Therefore, anything that you consume has an impact on your digestive system. 

It is important to understand that the condition may worsen, if you select the wrong choice of foods. In fact, there are several foods which may interrupt the normal digestion and pH balance of the stomachleading to form acidity.

Coffee, tea, caffeinated drinks and energy drinkscontain caffeine that can intensify acid refluxesbycausing heartburn too. It is advisable to eliminate caffeine from your diet completely.

3. Alcohol

Alcohol, in general, tends to have a negative impact on one’s health. It can take a toll on each part of the body. It is problematic for those who have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Consumption of alcohol can irritate the stomach causing it to inflame. This could impair the functioning ofoesophageal. Alcohol could also cause heartburn.

4. Carbonated beverages

Carbonated beverages like soft drinks, juices, sparkling water, and energy drinks are acidic and caffeinatedand can elevate acid refluxes as your stomach stretches from the accumulation of carbon dioxide gas present it in.

Chocolate is acidic which can irritate your stomach and oesophagus. There is a link between coco and acid reflux episode. Chocolate leads to intestinal cell releasing serotonin which causing the oesophageal sphincter to relaxand thereby allowing stomach acid to flow upwards.

Tomatoes are acidic in nature. They can cause acidity. It can make your gastric levels rise high enough to make it force back up the oesophagus.

7. Processed foods

Are you consuming processed foods regularly? If so, you will have to give up on them. It is a known fact that processed food can invite acidity. So, avoid ready-to-eat meals, chips, biscuits, and tinned fruits and vegetables.

8. Deep-fried foods

9. Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits are a common cause of aciditybecause they increase the acid production in your stomach. Lemons, pineapple, orange, strawberries, kiwi, sweet limes etc have the most citric acid.

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Use antacids in right dosage.
  • Consult a doctor if the symptoms persist.
