President Droupadi Murmu to Attend Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral

President Droupadi Murmu will visit London from September 17 to 19 to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and offer condolences on behalf of the Indian government, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Wednesday.

ANI reported on their social media handle “President Droupadi Murmu will be visiting London, United Kingdom on 17-19 September 2022 to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II & offer condolences on behalf of the Government of India.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar have all conveyed their condolences at the passing of Queen Elizabeth.

On September 12, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar paid a condolence visit to the British High Commission in New Delhi. On September 11, India also commemorated a day of national mourning.

During the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II, ties between the United Kingdom and India have strengthened immensely. The British monarch played a crucial role in the welfare of millions of people around the world as Head of the Commonwealth of Nations, a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs said.

King Charles III was proclaimed as the new monarch of England on Saturday after his mother Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8 at her Balmoral Castle summer residence in Scotland. She will be laid to rest at a state funeral at Westminster Abbey on September 19.
